A SAMPLE OF COLONIAL INSTITUTIONALISATION OF PERENNIAL POLITICAL CRISES THAT PRECLUDES GLOBAL PEACE

A POLITICAL OVERVIEW
The area that is now Nigeria was home to ethnically based kingdoms and tribal communities before it became a European colony. In spite of European contact that began in the 16th century, these kingdoms and communities maintained their autonomy until the 19th century. The colonial era began in earnest in the late 19th century, when Britain consolidated its rule over Nigeria. In 1914 the British merged their northern and southern protectorates into a single state called the Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria. Nigeria became independent of British rule in 1960. After independence Nigeria experienced frequent coups and long periods of autocratic military rule between 1966 and 1999, when a democratic civilian government was established.

1. The Scramble for Africa

In 1884 and 1885 European powers carved Africa into spheres of influence at the Berlin West Africa Conference. Britain, its claim to Nigeria affirmed, moved quickly to consolidate its territory. The colony of Lagos, first declared in 1861, was expanded, and in 1887 a new protectorate, Oil Rivers (later the Niger Coast Protectorate), was created in the Niger Delta. The British also waged bloody and ruthless war on resisting coastal and forest peoples, particularly in Benin, Nupe, and Ilorin. Its hold in the south was secure by 1897.
While Britain was consolidating these areas, it granted the Royal Niger Company a trading monopoly in the north. In return the company agreed to advance British interests, economic and political. The company set up headquarters at Lokoja, located at the confluence of the Niger and Benue rivers in central Nigeria, and extended its trade northwest up the Niger and northeast up the Benue. Treaties were signed with several African states, including Nupe, Sokoto, and Gwandu, thus depriving French and German rivals access to the northern region.
In 1900, with the south secure, Britain revoked the Royal Niger Company’s charter and declared that a colonial government would administer Nigeria as two protectorates: one in the south and one in the north. (Lagos was incorporated into the southern protectorate in 1906.) Simultaneously, Britain went to war against the Sokoto caliphate in the northwest, conquering it by 1903. Remaining pockets of resistance within the caliphate and elsewhere in northern Nigeria were quelled over the next few years. In 1914 Britain joined the two protectorates into a single colony, and in 1922 part of the former German colony of Kamerun was attached to Nigeria as a League of Nations-mandated territory.

2.  Indirect Rule    .

Britain governed Nigeria via indirect rule, a system in which native leaders continued to rule their traditional lands so long as they collected taxes and performed other duties ensuring British prosperity. Uncooperative or ineffective leaders were easily replaced by others who were more compliant or competent, and usually more than willing to enjoy the perks of government. Britain was thus saved the huge economic and political cost of running and militarily securing a day-to-day government.
Indirect rule operated relatively smoothly in the north, where the British worked with the Fulani aristocracy, who had long governed the Sokoto caliphate and who were able to administer traditional Islamic law alongside British civil law. In the south, however, traditions were less accommodating. In Yorubaland indirect rule disrupted historical checks and balances, increasing the power of some chiefs at the expense of others. Moreover, although the Yoruba kings had long been powerful, few had collected taxes, and citizens resisted their right to do so under British mandate. In the southeast, particularly in Igboland, many of the societies had never had chiefs or for that matter organized states. Consequently, the chiefs appointed by Britain received little or no respect. In Nigeria’s culturally fragmented middle belt, small groups were forcefully incorporated into larger political units and often ruled by “foreign” Fulani, who brought with them alien institutions such as Islamic law.
The British carried out a few reforms, including the gradual elimination of domestic slavery, which had been a central feature of the Sokoto caliphate. They also provided Western education for some of Nigeria’s elite; however, in the main Britain limited schooling as much as feasible.
Britain redirected almost all of Nigeria’s trade away from Africa and toward itself, a move that undermined the northern region’s large, centuries-old trade across the Sahara. Britain further changed the economy by introducing new crops and expanding old ones, such as oil palm, cotton, groundnuts, and cacao, almost all of which were sold for export. Iron and tin were also mined, and railroads were built to transport products. Because Britain required Nigerians to pay taxes in cash rather than goods, most Nigerians had little choice but to grow cash-yielding export crops or to migrate seasonally to areas where paying jobs could be found.
Throughout the early 20th century, Nigerians found many ways to oppose foreign rule. Local armed revolts, concentrated in the middle belt, broke out sporadically and intensified during World War I (1914-1918). Workers in mines, railways, and public service often went on strike over poor wages and working conditions, including a large general action in 1945, when 30,000 workers stopped commerce for 37 days. Ire over taxation prompted other conflicts, including a battle in 1929 fought mainly by Igbo women in the Aba area. More common was passive resistance: avoiding being counted in the census, working at a slow pace, telling stories ridiculing colonists and colonialism. A few political groups also formed to campaign for independence, including the National Congress and the National Democratic Party, but their success was slight. In 1937 the growing movement was given a voice by Nnamdi Azikiwe, an Igbo nationalist, who founded the newspaper West African Pilot.
World War II (1939-1945), in which many Nigerians fought for or otherwise aided Britain, increased the pace of nationalism. The growing anticolonial feeling was most strongly articulated by two groups, the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC), led by Azikiwe and supported mostly by Igbo and other easterners, and the Action Group, led by activist Obafemi Awolowo and supported mostly by Yoruba and other westerners. By the early 1950s, other parties had emerged, notably the Northern People’s Congress, a conservative northern group led by the Hausa-Fulani elite. The regional power bases of these parties foreshadowed the divisive regional politics that would follow colonialism.
Pressure for independence from within Nigeria was complemented by pressure from other nations, and from reformers in Britain and in other colonies. In 1947 the British responded by introducing a new constitution that divided Nigeria into three regions: the Northern Region, the Eastern Region, and the Western Region. The Northern Region was mainly Hausa-Fulani and Muslim; the Eastern Region, Igbo and Catholic; and the Western Region, Yoruba and mixed Muslim and Anglican. The regions each had their own legislative assemblies, with mainly appointed rather than elected members, and were overseen by a weak federal government. Although short-lived, the constitution had serious long-term impact through its encouragement of regional, ethnic-based politics.
The constitution failed on several counts, was abrogated in 1949, and was followed by other constitutions in 1951 and 1954, each of which had to contend with powerful ethnic forces. The Northern People’s Congress (NPC) argued that northerners, who made up half of Nigeria’s population, should have a large degree of autonomy from other regions and a large representation in any federal legislature. The NPC was especially concerned about respect for Islam and the economic dominance of the south. The western-based Action Group also wanted autonomy; they feared that their profitable western cocoa industries would be tapped to subsidize less wealthy areas. In the poorer east, the National Council for Nigeria and the Cameroons wanted a powerful central government and a redistribution of wealth—the very things feared by the Action Group.
The eventual compromise was the 1954 constitution, which made Nigeria a federation of three regions corresponding to the major ethnic nations. It differed from the 1947 constitution in that powers were more evenly split between the regional governments and the central government. The constitution also gave the regions the right to seek self-government, which the Western and Eastern regions achieved in 1956. The Northern Region, however, fearing that self-government (and thus British withdrawal) would leave it at the mercy of southerners, delayed the imposition until 1959.
In December 1959, elections were held for a federal parliament. None of the three main parties won a majority, but the NPC, thanks to the size of the Northern Region, won the largest plurality. Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, head of the NPC, entered a coalition government with the eastern NCNC as prime minister. The new parliament was seated in January 1960.

BRITISH BORN HAROLD SMITH CONFESSED &
APOLOGISE FOR MANIPULATING PRE-
INDEPENDENT CENSUS AND ELECTION TO
FAVOUR NORTH.

The man Harold Smith is not new in Nigerian
history. He is one of the architects of colonial
foundation that midwife Nigerian independence in
1960.
I met him in a meeting three weeks ago where he
opened up a bit about the lingering problem in
Africa especially; Nigeria unbalanced protracted
social political situations. We asked if he could
make this known to the media. His response was
“I am in my 80s now; I have agreed but in the
past ‘they’ did not want me to say anything, but
now I don’t want to go to my grave without
telling the truth about the atrocities perpetrated in
Africa by
the colonialists.
Brothers and sisters; on Ben TV last Thursday,
Harold Smith was on a program to reveal what
went behind the scene before the independence.
The Oxford University graduate had this to say
about his role in Nigeria pre and after
independence era.
‘Our agenda was to completely exploit Africa.
Nigeria was my duty post. When we assessed
Nigeria, this was what we found in the southern
region; strength, intelligence, determination to
succeed, well established history, complex but
focused life style, great hope and aspirations… the
East is good in business and technology, the west
is good in administration and commerce, law and
medicine, but it was a pity we planned our
agenda to give power “at all cost” to the
northerner.
They seemed to be submissive and silly of a kind.
Our mission was accomplished by destroying the
opposition at all fronts. The west led in the fight
for the independence, and was punished for
asking for freedom.
They will not rule Nigeria!
Harold Smith confessed that the Census results
were announced before they were counted.
Despite seeing vast land with no human but
cattle in the north, we still gave the north 55
million instead of 32 Million. This was to be used
to maintain their majority votes and future power
bid. He stated that the West without Lagos was
the most populous in
Nigeria at that time but we ignored that.
The north was seriously encouraged to go into
the military. According to him, they believe that
the south may attend western education, but
future leaders will always come from military
background. Their traditional rulers were to be
made influential and super human. The
northerners were given accelerated promotions
both in the military and civil service to justify their
superiority over the
south. Everything was to work against the south.
We truncated their good plan for their future. “I
was very sorry for the A.G; it was a great party
too much for African standard. We planned to
destroy Awolowo and Azikwe well, the west and
the east and sowed a seed of discord among
them”.
We tricked Azikwe into accepting to be president
having known that Balewa will be the main man
with power. Awolowo has to go to jail to cripple
his genius plans for a greater Nigeria.
However, Harold Smith justified theI British
agenda of colonialism in Nigeria, which he
believed was originally to help build Africa after
the ruins of slave trade, but lamented that the
British only looked after themselves and not after
Nigerian interest.
The British really let Nigeria down. When I
see Nigerian been accused of fraud and from
what I saw on the streets of Lagos; the British
were worst fraudsters.
Looking at the northern leaders now he said, “If
they have any agenda in Nigeria at all, sadly it is
only for the north, and nothing for Nigeria. He
stated that the British look after the British people
and this is so all over the world. He said the time
has come now to see people of intelligent minds
with an open and inclusive agenda for all
Nigerians in power…people who will really look
after Nigerians large population…but ”I still
curiously and sorrowfully see now that the British
has not let go of Nigeria…her wealth,. her
potentials, her future. He opined that the
Caucasian people now
assert themselves as the keeper of the “New Age”
keys. He therefore said that it is only logical for
Europeans to maintain their position of power,
scientific superiority, economic exploitation, they
must continue to perpetuate their lies and
falsehoods and this is the most unkindest cut of
all in relation to Nigeria situation!
According to him, Nigeria, a great nation was
crippled not because of military juntas or corrupt
leaders alone but by the British and American fear
of Nigeria great future. He confessed, “The fear of
the place that will be our ‘dumping ground’ really
occupied our minds”.
Some of the things he said were not new to
Nigerians or to the whole world but hearing it
from the horse’s mouth is quite revealing and
established more reality zones. He finally
submitted that the colonial masters have caused
havoc while they were in Africa, and planted
timed bombs when they finally left. What we see
since independence, the administration of new
internal colonial masters by fellow Nigerians
holding sway
in power is doing more damage to Nigeria.
Instead of detonating the time bombs planted by
the British, the north is planting mines.
He added that ‘It was my duty to carry out all of
the above and I was loyal to my country.
Nigerians should try to be loyal to their country
leaders and followers alike. Love your country.
You have got the potentials to be great again and
the whole world knows this’.

THIS IS HOW THE SOUTHERNERS LOST THE CHANCE OF REDRESSING WHAT BRITAIN DID TO US VIA LORD LUGARD

"I call General Chukwemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, the Peoples General, who knew exactly what was needed to reverse the punitive enthronement of the North on the South, he was oue version of the Great Jewish-French Physician turned Sear; NOSTRADAMUS OF AFRICA, the Man that saw tomorrow IN NIGERIA?"

His lofty ideals were destroyed by SABOTEURS, especially,

1.  Isaac Adaka Boro, A UNN graduate, born, bred, buttered and jammed in CKC Onitsah as well as Ken Saro-Wiwa THEN,

2.  Chief Obafemi Awolowo who refused to declare ODUDUWA REPUBLIC as he agreed with Odumegwu Ojukwu who rescued him from Kiri-Kiri Maximum Prison along with the FIVE MAJORS and Shielded them all at CALABAR PRISONS,...

3.  He also went to ORE to bribe off Colonel Banjo, Major Ifeajuna etc to WITHDRAW back to Asaba....when they could reached and blown the Railway Lines at Ibadan that was their MILITARY ASSIGNMENT.That's how AWOLOWO sold all Yoruba to Hausa-Fulani as SLAVES..
THEREFORE, IN THE FINAL ANALYSES

1. --- OBAFEMI AWOLOWO SOLD THE YORUBAS TO THE HAUSA - FULANI IN 1967 BY RENEGING ON PACT WITH ODIMEGWU OJUKWU TO DECLARE "ODUDUWA REPUBLIC

Jude Danmbaezue THIS IS THE SECRET OF HOW AND WHY I AM STILL ALIVE, HEALTHY, ACADEMICALLY BUBBLING AND HAPPY TO DATE;..............................
Unfortunately I HAVE NEVER SEEN MORE THAN FIFTY THOUSAND NAIRA PUT TOGETHER ALL MY LIFE. The first and last in either 1981 or 1982 when I remembered I had not claimed my Retirement Benefits as a NAF DSSC OFFICER. I HAD JUST FINISHED AS THE FIRST POST GRADUATE MEDICAL STUDENT IN UNIBEN/UBTH, Ugbowo Campus. I realised I had exhausted my Ph.D. Scholarship Funds ONLY on Medical Masters Programme, due to the Nigerian Factor, I hurried to NAF HQRS in Victoria Island.

The processing was horrible and disgraceful despite people hailing me as the only Retired Officer that had ever pulled off such a QUICK STUNT. What did I get after 3 hectic days of HASSLING and "HUSSLING-NIGERIAN-FACTOR-STYLE" Only a mere N50.000 heeh yi. It was quite substantial then as the devaluation as at now, it was not so bad as at 1982.

From that day to date I HATED MONEY. I do not operate bank accounts nor insurance, but I AM THE HAPPIEST RICHEST/POOR ACADEMICIAN IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA I was rated by Guinness Book of Records which I refused,  RENOUNCED, SUBPOENAED IN COURT & IMMEDIATELY went into Full Time Quiet Research...

THE TRUTH ABOUT NIGERIA'S BACKWARD MOVEMENT IS ENDEMIC HATRED

Ex-GOV. OSOBA, soorrioo
* I PITY YOU ooo FOR when you publicly exchange useless words with a madman, passers bye cannot differentiate who of the two is really mad!.
** WHY REDUCE YOURSELF TO HIS LEVEL. DO YOU REALLY KNOW HIM?
1. Is OBJ really an Egba son? Consult former Abia State Gov. KALU ORJI UZO KALU who owns the SUN NEWS for accurate & genuine genealogical roots of the deceitful embodied demon you are wasting your saliva on.
2. Did he pass at Yaba College of Technology?? Investigate. Ask his school mates, who are still alive. So why lower yourself to such a drop out.
3. Did he attend Sanhurst Military Academy in United Kingdom reserved for brightest cadets? or MONS academy in India, find out why he was not there, but sent to Mons??
4. Where was he WHEN HIS BEST PADDY MAN in the officers military barracks in Kaduna, Major Patrick Nzeogwu, struck in Jan. 1966?
Why was he not privy to the coup?
5. Where did he hide as a rat when Colonel Fajuyi & General JTU Ironsi were murdered by Murtala and his gang at Ibadan in July 1966/7? To date has he avenged?
6. Why did he not command any war fronts at the onset like brave Shuwa, Murtala or Black Scorpion a.k.a Benjamin Adekunle?
7. His fake MY COMMAND is pure forgery, he came to Mgbidi near Owerri a month to our surrender, for I fought as a nineteen year old Biafran Soldier and was "persona non grata" to us. He was a full time straggler (one who feigns ill-health to avoid real battles) plus Babaginda and Buhair who were mere Captais then. . . . HE WAS NOT KNOWN TO US the veterans till september 1969 ! Ask him why???
8. ASK HIM HOW & WHERE HE SAW the only surviving Major Ademoyega WHO SERIOUSLY FEIGNED MADDNESS till he OBJ slapped the maddness out of him! Where is Adegboyega hiding to date, HE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN REVEAL A LOT UNKNOWN TO PATRIOTIC NIGERIANS.
** * Why can't you Yorubas open your cowardly eyes and jaundiced brains? Ask adegboyega, ... THE FIVE MAJORS wanted to forcibly INSTALL Obafemi Awolowo AS THE PRIME MINISTER thereby replace Bello's surrogate in Lagos, Sir Tafawa Balewa Abubakar who falsely accused AWO of treason and imprisoned him..
Out of pity Colonel Ojukwu the then Military Gov of Easter Nigeria, rescued him and the 5 majors from Kiri Kiri and shielded them at Calabar!
9. Major Adegboyega if still alive will attest to this and explain that Awolowo bit the fingers that fed him. The Treachery that fuelled the Civil War is he did not declare your own SECESSION, and THEREBY enslaved you all that could have had ODUDUWA REPUBLIC.
He reneged on the secret plot also to HAVE Benin Republic also declared with Odumegwu Ojukwu & thereby SOLD YOU ALL into perpetual slavery to Hausa-Funali Oligarchy and that is WHY ALL OF YOU ARE SECOND FIDDLERS FOREVER IN THE BRITISH MADE NIGERIA.
Send more enquiries to AIR RAID, The Real Battle Hero of our Biafran Survival War COLONEL ACHUZIA for full dossiers. Am was just a CHEM-BO-ZOO Higher School Student at C.K.C Onitsha, the University on the Niger at the onset of the dastardly unnecssary fratricide that could not have happened IF BIAFRA, WEST AND MIDWEST seceded together as REPUBLICS of free Oduduwa & Benin

NOBODY IS GOOD IN OBASANJO’S EYES, SAYS OSOBA
A former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, says former President Olusegun Obasanjo, is too critical of people and sees nothing good in anyone.
Osoba said this during an interview with journalists in Lagos on Saturday.
He said this while reacting to Obasanjo’s claim that Chief Obafemi Awolowo was never the leader of the Yoruba but was only elected leader by his supporters.
He said, “I would not like to judge Chief Obasanjo because as I am trying to put the facts straight, I don’t want to join him in condemnation of individuals. I respect him for his own strong points and weaknesses. But one thing I disagree with him is his condemnation of virtually everybody and even those around him.
“Wole Soyinka is not good, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is not good, Atiku Abubakar is not good, Reuben Aabati is useless, Doyin Okupe is not to be associated with. Who then is good?”
Osoba said even the dead were not spared of unfair criticism by Obasanjo. He noted that even MKO Abiola, who gave his life for democracy, did not escape Obasanjo’s criticism.
He said this was unfortunate because without Abiola, Obasanjo would never have emerged President.
He said, “Whether he likes it or not, MKO Abiola will forever be the symbol and hero of modern day democracy in Nigeria. When Abiola couldn’t negotiate his freedom by signing away his mandate to General Sani Abacha, he laid down his life and I expect Chief Obasanjo to understand the fact that he became a beneficiary and should see Abiola as a hero.
“Nobody can claim to be the only hero in any society. Society is a team. Within our Egba community, the Ransome-Kutis are heroes. Their mother was an activist, Fela was an acitivist, Beko Ransome-Kuti was an activist. Prof. Olikoye Ransome-Kuti took his father’s nature. He was a gentleman but was also an activist with his philosophy of primary healthcare.
“Wole Soyinka is a hero, Ebenezer Obey is a hero; he recorded over 50 records and delivered philosophical lyrics. Akintola Williams, an Egba man, is the first accountant and is still worshipped today. Society is the totality of a team. A tree can never make a forest and that is where I disagree with Chief Obasanjo. To reduce Soyinka to a wine connoisseur hurts me.”
The veteran journalist, who described Obasanjo’s book, ‘My Watch’, as a distortion of history, said Awolowo was unanimously elected as the leader of the Yoruba in 1966 shortly before the civil war.
He said Obasanjo was privy to the meeting where Awolowo was elected but only wanted to denigrate the late sage for reasons best known to him.

THE KENEZIAN EPITAPH FOR TRUE CHILDREN OF THE ALMIGHTY CREATOR

·        Among the living things that move about on their own, I do observe that we all have the same basic structure, protoplasm and energy source.
·        We equally possess identical feelings, functions and comparable life spans!
·        We all need to prostrate and worship this All Knowing, All Powerful, and Infinite Energy Source that sustains all beings in the entire universe!
·        And because there are no accidents in Nature when all His Natural Laws are respected and obeyed, I attest to this creed most solemnly and voluntarily:
·                     *-THE UNIVERSE IS OUR INHERITANCE, ALL MANKIND MY BLOOD RELATIVES!
·                     **--DOING GOOD AT ALL TIMES AND OBEYING ALL NATURAL LAWS IS MY CODE!
·                     ***---SEEKING THE TRUTH, LIVING THE TRUTH, PROPAGATING THE TRUTH AND DYING FOR THE TRUTH IF THE NEED ARISES, IS MY RELIGION!

Postscript:
My respect, obedience and loyalty belongs to this Almighty Eternal Being as I extend my hands of love and co-operation to all other beings that I meet during my short span of life on this planet, since I now recognise them as my brothers, sisters and co-heirs of this Our Eternal Lawgiver, Father and Mother who created us all!
Shortly following the death of his beloved father, Sir Daniel M. Paul Mbaezue, a 4th Grade Papal Knight of Columbus , Texas, USA  in 1998, the animator went into mourning for a year. He resurfaced in 1999 with an epitaph he continually re-phrased and revised for years before this final version, which he captioned:

A KENEZIAN INTERNATIONAL EPITAPH

“Here lie the humble remains of………………….
The man who lived the Truth,
Stood for the Truth,
Propagated the Truth, and
Died defending the Truth!

Undeterred by mundane opinions,
Unseduced by feminine sycophancy,
Undismayed by human adversities!

He confronted life with courage,
He conquered evil with goodness,
He defeated enemies with friendliness!

He was not the son of an earthly king,
But he lived and died as a heavenly prince,
The Prince of Family Health world-wide,

He lived for and served all mankind,
He founded and animated three NGOs,

His legacy remains:

ONE ALMIGHTY CREATOR,
ONE CREATED UNIVERSE,
ONE HUMAN FAMILY!
